The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) was established in the 1980’s in order to address growing drug-related crime in the City of Battle Creek. Over the past several decades, SIU has developed into a high-functioning, multi-crime investigatory unit within the larger BCPD Investigative Bureau. The team is comprised of several Officers and Detectives and one Sergeant.
SIU focuses on cases that are unique and require non-traditional methods of investigations. Their primary objective is to combat narcotics trafficking but routinely work on many other long-term investigations involving weapons, organized crime, prostitution and gambling, intelligence gathering, wanted persons and supporting other Law Enforcement agencies.
SIU utilizes partnerships with surrounding local, State and Federal Law Enforcement including MSP, HSI, DEA and ATF to further these investigations. This team also works in conjunction with GSU, HHIT, the Fusion Center and the DB on a regular basis.
