BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – Battle Creek Police executed a search warrant yesterday, Wednesday, Jan. 7, that led to the arrest and charging of two men in connection to a New Year's Day shooting on Kingman Avenue.
The BCPD's Gang Suppression Unit – with assistance from the Special Investigations Unit, Emergency Response Team, Crime Lab, and the Emmett Township Department of Public Safety – executed a search warrant Wednesday, Jan. 7, at a home in the 1000 block of Columbia Avenue. This search warrant was in connection with the New Year’s Day shooting that occurred in the early morning hours of Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026, in the 200 block of Kingman Avenue.
During the search, investigators recovered hundreds of rounds of live ammunition and a stolen firearm located in one of the suspects' rooms.
Through the investigation, two men, ages 21 and 32, were arrested in connection with the New Year's Day shooting on Kingman Avenue and were lodged at the Calhoun County Jail. Child Protective Services was also contacted, and a child residing in the home was removed.
The 21-year-old suspect was charged with Assault with Intent to Murder, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and Felon in Possession of Ammunition. The 32-year-old suspect was charged with Assault with Intent to Murder and Felon in Possession of Ammunition.
This investigation remains ongoing by the BCPD. No additional information is available at this time.
