The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has proposed a 10-year deadline to remove all lead service lines across the country. This initiative is part of the Lead and Copper Rule Improvements, which aim to address the presence of lead in drinking water.
The City of Battle Creek's Department of Public Works is taking a two-pronged approach to replace lead service lines with copper and high-density polyethylene (HDP). While internal staff are replacing full-service lines, the city is working with contractors to replace lead service line plumbing that goes into residents' homes.
The City of Battle Creek's "Get the Lead Out" initiative aims to identify the pipe material in your home. If you receive city water service, we would like to know what type of material the pipe is made of that comes into your home. Check out this map that illustrates the city's water service inventory.
You can help us by learning how to determine your own pipe material and reporting that to us in this short survey.
