BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — U.S. and State of Michigan flags are to be flown at half-staff, from sunrise to sunset, tomorrow, Sunday, Dec. 7, in observance of National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.

On Aug. 23, 1994, the United States Congress designated Dec. 7 as National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day. This year, we commemorate the 84th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941 and, in doing so, honor and remember the 2,403 Americans who lost their lives.

To lower flags to half-staff, flags should be hoisted first to the peak for an instant and then lowered to the half-staff position. The process is reversed before the flag is lowered for the day.

Flags should be returned to full staff after sunset Sunday, Dec. 7.
