BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – The Battle Creek Fire Department responded to a roof fire at ReConserve of Michigan on Sunday, Aug. 10.
Crews were dispatched at 10:07 a.m. Rescue 2 and Car 3 arrived within four minutes to find fire and smoke showing from inside the building and along the roofline. Rescue 2 deployed a handline to begin fire attack, assisted by Engine 5.
Truck 1 set up aerial operations and flowed master streams to suppress the fire from above. Rescue 6 established a water supply and supported the attack, with support from Engines 3 and 4.
The bulk of the fire was located at the roofline, beneath the roof system, which made access difficult. A partial collapse of the roof further delayed extinguishment efforts.
All workers were accounted for upon arrival, and no injuries were reported. The fire originated in a material hopper. Crews remained on scene for approximately 10 hours, rotating personnel and working with company staff to remove smoldering contents.
Battle Creek Police and LifeCare Ambulance also responded to provide support.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
