BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — The Battle Creek Police Department is sharing important traffic updates for the upcoming Field of Flight Air Show and Balloon Festival, scheduled for July 2-6, at the Battle Creek Executive Airport.
Parking Information
To improve traffic flow and increase capacity, parking has been expanded on the east side of the airfield off Helmer Road.
- From the North: Travel southbound on Helmer Road from W. Dickman Road. You will be directed into the North Main Lot.
- From the South: Travel northbound on Helmer Road from W. Columbia Avenue. You will be directed into the South Main Lot or overflow parking.
- From the West: Parking is available on S. Airport Road off W. Columbia Avenue, but capacity is reduced this year due to construction.
Traffic Restrictions
- Helmer Road will be closed to through traffic between W. Columbia Avenue and W. Dickman Road for the duration of the event.
- Additional closures will occur at W. Dickman and Helmer during Thunderbird performances, further restricting access.
Community Notice: Field of Flight Pyrotechnics
The BCPD would like to inform neighbors additional pyrotechnics, including loud booms, will be used during this year’s festival. These effects will occur during select performances, including the July 2 and July 4 fireworks displays and, for the first time, during the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds show. These sounds are part of the program and are not cause for concern. These programs are identified in the schedule, which can be found here.
Please plan ahead, follow posted signage, and allow extra time for travel.
