[ARCHIVED] Notice and Opportunity for Public Comment: DWSRF FY26 project plan

City of Battle Creek DWSRF draft plan for comment

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – The City of Battle Creek, in partnership with Jones & Henry Engineers, Ltd., is preparing an application for funding to improve the city's drinking water system. This project aims to remove and replace lead service lines in compliance with Michigan's Lead and Copper Rule.

The proposed improvements will be funded through the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE), Drinking Water State Revolving Fund. These funds are low-interest loans and provide potential debt forgiveness for Fiscal Year 2026. The project will span several years and involve thousands of residential parcels across the city. Work will include replacement of lead service lines in the roadway and lead or galvanized service lines from the street to the meter inside the house.

The city invites public comments on the draft plan, which can be found on the City of Battle Creek website. Comments may be submitted by mail to the Department of Public Works at 150 S Kendall St., Battle Creek, MI 49037, or online through May 6. Neighbors can also review a hard copy of the plan at DPW. The community is encouraged to participate in an upcoming public hearing on the DWSRF FY26 project plan at the next City Commission regular meeting, scheduled for Tuesday, May 6, at 7 p.m.
