BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — The Battle Creek Fire Department is now accepting applications for the position of firefighter. This is a unique opportunity for individuals passionate about serving their community and ready to take on the challenges and rewards of a firefighting career.
The department is looking for candidates who meet the following requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Possess a high school diploma or GED
- Hold a valid driver’s license
No prior Firefighter I, II, or Medical First Responder certifications are required, as the department provides certification upon hiring if candidates do not already have it.

The BCFD responds to a high volume of calls, with 9,221 annual calls for service in 2024 across its six stations. This requires firefighters to be well-trained and prepared to handle a variety of emergencies.
