BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — A 46-year-old Battle Creek man was arrested Saturday evening, Oct. 5, following a high-speed chase that spanned two counties and reached speeds of up to 90 miles per hour.

The incident began around 8:40 p.m. on Maxwell Drive in Pennfield Township, where Calhoun County sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of gunfire. Although no injuries were reported, witnesses observed a silver Chevrolet Silverado leaving the area at a high rate of speed.

At 9 p.m., dispatchers received a second call reporting a Silverado driving recklessly near Columbia and Capital avenues. A Battle Creek police officer witnessed the suspect perform a doughnut in the intersection before fleeing the scene

At 9:25 p.m., dispatch received a call from a driver who reported being chased by a Silverado in a parking lot in the 1500 block of W. Michigan Avenue. Another witness reported seeing a Silverado aggressively pursuing a Ford Mustang in the same area. A Battle Creek Police officer, who was conducting a traffic stop nearby, attempted to stop the Silverado after the Mustang driver sought their help.

The Silverado fled north on M-37 into Hastings, then turned east and then north onto M-43, before heading south back through Hastings toward Delton. The pursuit ended in Delton after the suspect drove over stop sticks deployed by a Prairieville Township officer.

The driver was taken into custody and transported to the Calhoun County Jail. He faces charges of fleeing and eluding, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, multiple weapon offenses, and a probation violation warrant related to several reckless driving reports.
