Battle Creek Police will place extra officers on traffic patrol the week of June 23-29 in the city and Bedford Township, where we provide police services.
The Police Department will temporarily reassign officers to address ongoing traffic concerns we hear from neighbors across the city. The last extra patrol was in October 2023. The goal is to bring traffic offenses to people’s attention and change behaviors in an effort to reduce accidents, especially as more children are out and about during summer break, and we welcome more visitors to the area for summer events.
During the extra patrols, up to 10 extra police officers will be specifically focused on – and ready to enforce – these traffic concerns:
- Speeding
- Aggressive driving
- Distracted driving
- Vehicles without license plates
- Other minor traffic offenses
These officers will be out in the city in addition to the city’s typical group of patrol officers. The officers will focus on all city neighborhoods and commercial areas.
Drivers also should remember that both city and state laws require that you only use cell phones hands-free while driving. This includes while you are sitting at a red traffic signal.
Police and city leaders appreciate everyone’s attention to safety while you are driving.
