Other information: The Battle Creek Fire Department Hazmat Team was deployed to a rolled over propane truck, caused by a two-car accident in Cooper Township-Kalamazoo County.
An estimated 1,600 gallons of liquid propane was on board at the time of the accident. BCFD Hazmat team, which has been recognized by the state as a Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) response unit, was on the scene for over 13 hours.
BCFD took command of the hazmat scene, mitigated the incident, performed the method of flaring to safely offload the propane, and monitored all surrounding atmospheric conditions.
BCFD Hazmat team collaborated with Kalamazoo County partners to ensure the safety of all residents and responders on the scene. Propane incidents can be extremely dangerous to all involved and, due to the advanced training and knowledge of the Battle Creek Fire Department Hazmat unit, the incident was managed safely and efficiently.
