Other information: The Battle Creek Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at 433 N. Kendall St. at about 1 a.m. Engine 2 was first to arrive to find the occupants had safely evacuated the house, and they indicated the stove was on fire. A quick interior attack was performed by Engine 2 with aid from Engine 1 and Engine 5. Car 3 arrived to take command and all other companies were standing by for additional resources.
The fire was contained to the kitchen and crews performed overhaul. The cause of the fire was determined to be unattended cooking. Crews were on scene over 40 minutes and the Red Cross was contacted to help the occupants with food and shelter.
