BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – Battle Creek firefighters quickly contained a small fire shortly after 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, at Fazoli’s restaurant on Beckley Road.
Rescue 6 arrived in under three minutes and found flames on the exterior wall near the restaurant’s entryway. When crews opened the wall to extinguish the fire, they discovered it had spread upward inside the wall toward the attic.
Firefighters stretched a hose line to knock down the bulk of the fire. Truck 1, Rescue 2 and Engine 4 helped open additional sections of the wall and checked for fire extension into the attic.
Crews brought the fire under control within 10 minutes. No injuries were reported.
The Battle Creek fire marshal determined the likely cause was the careless discarding of smoking materials. The fire damaged the exterior of the restaurant’s entryway.
Lifecare Ambulance also responded to support fire crews.
