BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – On Thursday, July 3, at approximately 1:21 p.m., Battle Creek Fire Department crews were dispatched to a water rescue in the Battle Creek River near Wagner Drive and Emmett Street, where a boat had overturned after going over the dam.
Car 3, Engine 1 and Engine 3 arrived to find two individuals involved—one who had successfully made it to shore, and another still in the river next to the overturned vessel.
Engine 3 used swift water rescue equipment to safely escort the second individual out of the water. Crews then secured and removed the overturned boat with support from Engine 1 and Engine 5.
Both boaters were evaluated and released on scene.
The Battle Creek Police Department, Calhoun County Marine Patrol, and LifeCare Ambulance also responded and assisted at the scene.
