BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — Battle Creek Police responded to Riverside Elementary School this afternoon, Tuesday, Sept. 17, following a report of an armed individual on the premise around 1 p.m.
A witness reported seeing two men retrieving what appeared to be rifles from the trunk of a black Chevrolet Cobalt near the south side of the school.
The BCPD placed the school on lockdown and officers arrived within minutes and detained both men for questioning. A search revealed several knives and airsoft and BB guns.

The men stated that they had no intention to commit a violent act.
Both men were taken into custody and transported to the Calhoun County Jail. The 66-year-old man was charged with open intoxication and issued a misdemeanor citation. The 56-year-old man was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a weapon in a school zone, and open intoxication.
