Other information: Battle Creek Fire Department crews arrived to find heavy smoke coming from all areas of a two-story, single-family home. Heavy fire was located at the rear of the house upon further assessment. The fire crews pulled hose lines and made an aggressive interior attack for a quick knockdown to gain fire control. An additional hose line was pulled to cool down siding that had melted on a home next door.
One person was transported to the hospital by LifeCare for smoke inhalation. They were already outside of the structure when fire crews arrived. The patient was in stable condition when he left the scene. Two dogs were rescued by the Truck crew during their initial victim search. Oxygen was administered to the animals while on scene and then they were taken to a veterinarian for a check-up.
Crews performed salvage and overhaul. No firefighters were injured. The fire is currently under investigation by the Battle Creek Fire Inspection Division.
