[ARCHIVED] Homeowner shoots stray dog during animal complaint on Lathrop Avenue Saturday afternoon

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — Battle Creek Police responded to an animal complaint on Lathrop Avenue, that resulted in the shooting of a stray dog, Saturday, May 4.

Police responded to the report of an animal complaint around 3 p.m. Saturday, May 4. Upon their arrival on Lathrop Avenue, officers were informed that a homeowner had shot a stray dog in their backyard.

Officers were able to recover the dog and transport it to the Calhoun County Animal Center, where CCAC staff were able to provide medical attention. The dog, identified as a Labrador and German Shepherd mix, did survive its wounds from being shot.

Police are investigating possible animal cruelty charges. This incident is still under investigation by the BCPD and no additional information will be shared at this time.
