Other information: The Battle Creek Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire at 9:55 p.m. to 214 Orchard Street. 

Engine 3 arrived to find a two-story house with smoke showing from the rear of the structure. Car 3 arrived and assumed command, while Engine 3 pulled an attack line and advanced into the back door for extinguishment. Truck 1 assisted with primary search of the first and second floors, and performed interior ventilation. Engine 4 searched the basement and secured the power panel. Rescue 6 and Engine 5 assisted with exterior operations. 

Engine 3 found the owner's dog on the first floor and brought it out the front, where crews attempted resuscitation but were unsuccessful. The Fire Inspector arrived to investigate the fire, which started in the kitchen. The fire is undetermined at this time.
