Other information: The Battle Creek Fire Department responded to an occupied structure fire at 11:43 p.m. on Thursday night, August 19. Engine 2 was first to arrive on scene with heavy fire showing on the first floor in the back bedroom. Engine 5 and Rescue 3 set-up water supply and aided Engine 2 in an aggressive interior attack, quickly knocking down the fire and preventing it from spreading throughout the structure. Rescue 4, Truck 6 and Squad 6 provided safety and additional personnel for secondary searches and ventilation. All 4 occupants were able to evacuate safely before fire personnel arrived but unfortunately 2 pets perished in the fire. The cause of the fire is undetermined and is currently under investigation with the Fire Marshal.
