Accident Investigator

Accident Investigators receive extensive, specialized training in traffic accidents to determine the factors that cause a traffic crash. Accident Investigator's duties are separate from their daily work assignment.

Data Collection

An Accident Investigator is called to investigate the scene of fatal and serious injury crashes. Initially, Accident Investigation is done through the use of photography, marking paint, scene sketching, taking measurements with a Leica Total Station and visual observations made of roadway markings while on scene. All of the data gathered is then complied into a report, called the Accident Reconstruction, that explains what occurred prior to impact, at the time of impact and after the impact. This data is presented to the Prosecuting Attorney's office to determine if criminal charges are warranted.
