The application period for the Battle Creek Fire Department is extended through 5 p.m. on Nov. 30, as the city seeks a driven group of candidates representing our diverse community.
Those who are at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma, GED or equivalent, can begin the process now to be placed on the entry-level firefighter eligibility list, which remains active for two years.
That starts with completing a city employment application online, at battlecreekmi.gov/jobs. Scroll to the Entry Level Firefighter position. Applications will be accepted through Nov. 30, and a $20 testing fee is required.
New this year, applicants will receive a downloadable study guide and practice test for the written Civil Service Exam. Those who already have applied and paid the fee still can receive the downloadable files, or a refund, if applicants already purchased study materials. Please contact the City Clerk with this situation, 269-966-3348.
Those who want to learn more can contact the Fire Department team at 269-966-3519. Those interested also are welcome to stop by one of the city’s six fire stations (all but the airport) to chat with staff – Station 1, 195 E. Michigan Ave.; Station 2, 145 N. Washington Ave.; Station 3, 222 Cliff St.; Station 4, 8 S. 20th St.; Station 5, 1170 W. Michigan Ave.; and Station 6, 2401 Capital Ave. SW.
