Keeping You Informed town hall on school safety on May 22

YAB 2018

The city’s Youth Advisory Board this year will co-host Commissioner Lynn Ward Gray’s Keeping You Informed Town Hall – this year about school safety.

The event is set for 7:00 p.m. next Tuesday, May 22, in the third-floor commission chambers at City Hall, 10 N. Division St.

All are welcome to attend – the town hall is free and open the public – and ask questions about school safety policies, and other related issues. Light refreshments will be served.

“We would love to have you come and learn about school safety, and how to help keep your students safe,” said Autumn Dorsey, YAB member and town hall chair.

In attendance will be Battle Creek Public Schools Superintendent Kim Carter, Lakeview School District Superintendent Blake Prewitt, Battle Creek Police Chief Jim Blocker, and Kellogg Community College Chief of Public Safety Austin Simons.

“The town hall on safe schools is important to me because we students experience first-hand the challenges of the school safety system, and bringing these to light, and finding solutions as a community, is the first step to a better system,” said YAB member Alayna Satterfield.

The Youth Advisory Board represents the youth voice in Battle Creek. Empowered to set its own agenda, the group works to address and act on issues related to the community’s youth, and make Battle Creek a better place for young people. A YAB representative sits on the dais with city commissioners during the twice-monthly commission meetings, and the group works with city staff on additional ways to engage youth in city government and in the community.
