The Battle Creek Police Department and Battle Creek Transit will hold an emergency training exercise today.
The departments will train on the process that should take place in the event of an emergency situation on a bus.
The exercise will take place in a rural part of the city between 1 and 6 p.m. today, and police will post training exercise signs in the area. Calhoun County Consolidated Dispatch is aware of the exercise.
Those who notice the exercise need not be alarmed. Neighbors may see a city bus and police patrol car traveling together, as well as the Police Department’s large, military-style MRAP vehicle.
While the BCPD Emergency Response Team has previously trained on this type of scenario, today’s exercise will be more spontaneous, in that the team will not know the bus location ahead of time.
