The Battle Creek Police Department and Substance Abuse Council worked together this week to conduct retailer compliance checks, related to whether area stores are following state laws that prohibit selling tobacco products to minors.
The agencies conducted 36 checks in Battle Creek on Tuesday. Of those, 34 were in compliance – 95 percent. They found two violations.
One was related to tobacco, the other involved a store in the 100 block of East Columbia Avenue selling a marijuana/THC liquid cartridge to an underage individual. Battle Creek Police are pursuing charges against the seller.
BCPD and the Substance Abuse Council are committed to supporting neighbors in their efforts to live productive and fulfilling lives. They will continue to coordinate efforts to protect our young neighbors, ensure that retailers follow the law, and reduce the impact of the opioid epidemic in the Battle Creek community.
