As the city continues work to help improve the Battle Creek community and its neighborhoods, we introduce a chief building official and community asset administrator.
Ted Hanson started work with the city on Feb. 8 and is our new chief building official and inspections supervisor. He is responsible for supervising registered contractors both employed and contracted by the city, as well as the customer service representatives in the code and inspections office.
Hanson is licensed by the State of Michigan as a chief building official and is also a licensed building inspector, builder and plan reviewer. He most recently worked for SAFEbuilt, a community development company, assigned to the Muskegon and Zeeland areas.
Also on Feb. 8, former inspections supervisor Dennis McKinley transitioned into the new position of community asset administrator. He is responsible for providing coordination, implementation and analysis of property and cross-departmental enforcement projects, providing consistency in the way the city handles these incidents. McKinley will work with all city departments, with a focus on Police Department needs.
Staff anticipate that McKinley will be a city liaison to various community agencies and service providers.
“Dennis is a resource for any city department that needs coordination support – on occasion with outside agencies – related to property, neighborhood and community conditions,” said Community Services Director Marcie Gillette. “I also look forward to Ted’s involvement as we build on the progress we’ve made in the last nine months related to inspections; the diversity and depth of his professional experience will undoubtedly be an asset to our organization and the community.”
