[ARCHIVED] Spring Cleanup set for next week

Spring Cleanup ad 2018

If you’re spending time spring cleaning and completing home projects, you can put up to 10 cubic yards of construction waste at the curb next week, for no extra charge, as part of this year’s Spring Cleanup week.

This is for those living within City of Battle Creek city limits only. Pickup by Waste Management will be on your usual trash/recycling pickup day from Monday, May 7 to Friday, May 11.

All materials must be contained or, when appropriate (carpet or boards, for example), bundled into four-foot lengths and securely tied. Items set out may not weigh more than 50 pounds.

Spring cleanup items may include, but are not limited to, household doors and windows, furniture, mattresses and box springs (must be wrapped in plastic), carpeting, toys, miscellaneous rubbish and junk, and packaging materials. Glass should be in a cardboard box, or other sturdy container, taped shut and clearly labeled.

Please DO NOT place the following at the curb – they will not be accepted:

  • Hazardous waste, like chemicals, oil-based paint, solvents, pesticides/herbicides
  • Treated lumber
  • Appliances containing Freon, including refrigerators and freezers
  • Auto parts or engines, tires, oil, gasoline, antifreeze
  • Batteries
  • Fluorescent light bulbs
  • Concrete
  • Tree stumps
  • Iron/steel/cast iron bath tubs
  • Medical waste

However, from 10 a.m. to noon this Saturday, May 5, all living in Calhoun County may drop off household hazardous waste at the Calhoun County building parking lot in Marshall. For more information on this event, visit calhouncountyrecycling.com.

Yard waste pickup by Waste Management continues until Nov. 30, also on your usual trash/recycling pickup day.
