Electronics, Styrofoam collection set for Aug. 25

March 2018 bill insert

Recently, our neighbors received a water bill insert full of the city’s upcoming environmental event and recycling collection dates – but we made a mistake.

The late-summer electronics and Styrofoam collection is set for 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 25. The insert listed the wrong date. This collection will take place at the Department of Public Works, 150 S. Kendall St.

We apologize for the error, and hope to see you on Aug. 25. See the entire list of this year’s event dates on the city’s website, battlecreekmi.gov/environment. Under the Environmental Services tab on the left, click Important Dates.

The Aug. 25 collection is open to anyone living in Calhoun County, and will collect the following:

  • Computers and computer equipment, including laptops
  • LCD and CRT monitors
  • Printers
  • Wires and cords
  • Copy and fax machines
  • Audio visual equipment
  • LCD, plasma, and tube TVs
  • Gaming consoles
  • Stereo equipment
  • Lamps
  • Small kitchen appliances and electronics
  • Other items with a cord
  • Car batteries
  • Household batteries
  • Styrofoam #6 – polystyrene, typically is used to make foam cups, plates, egg cartons, and packing material. Foam packing peanuts and construction foam cannot be accepted.

Any neighbor or business with a large quantity of materials should contact directly an electronics recycling company for proper disposal. This collection is for residential electronic waste only, and fees will apply for large quantities brought to this collection without proper notice.

All materials must be clean to be accepted at this event. We look forward to seeing you, and your recyclables!
