[ARCHIVED] City holds annual online rain barrel sale

The City of Battle Creek is, once again, holding an online rain barrel sale, to encourage residents to collect and save valuable water in our community.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, lawn and garden watering make up nearly 40 percent of total household water use during the summer. Rain barrels collect water and store it for when you need it to water your garden or wash your car.

Purchase a rain barrel at http://upcycle-products.com/battlecreekmi.html. They are available for $56.50 each in a variety of colors. Anyone may purchase the rain barrels, whether inside or outside the city limits.

Mail-in orders must be received by June 15 and online orders must be placed by June 18. The mail-in form is available at the above website.

The pre-ordered rain barrels will be available for pickup from 4-6 p.m. on Friday, June 22 at the city’s Department of Public Works, 150 S. Kendall St. Someone can pick up your barrel in your place; please bring your payment receipt.

Saving water helps protect the environment and diverts water away from storm drains, decreasing the impact of runoff to streams.

For more information on whether a rain barrel will work at your home and how to install one, visit the Battle Creek Area Clean Water Partners at www.bcwater.org. Direct questions to Lizzy Paul, the city’s environmental program coordinator, at 269-966-3355 ext. 1889 or egpaul@battlecreekmi.gov.
