City tells its 2017 story with interactive, online tool

The City of Battle Creek is excited to present its 2017 story – an online, interactive presentation of the top projects accomplished last year.

Staff used esri software to create a story map – a multi-media presentation using text, photos, interactive maps, links, and more – to tell the city’s story. It’s a way to give an annual report in an interesting way, and we hope to continue sharing information this way each year.

Sometimes pages-long reports are necessary, but we hope this format will offer a fun, easy way to learn more about city services, programs, and projects, both completed and in progress. Viewers will see that staff accomplished a lot of planning and preparation work in 2017 for more projects to come.

By scrolling through, neighbors will learn about new lighting at the W.K. Kellogg Airport, see before and after images from the Code Compliance program with ePaint Recycling, see maps of last year’s water main projects, and much, much more.

Staff from across the city compiled information on the projects we believe had the greatest impact in 2017. Geographic Information Systems staff placed everything into the online software, creating maps, linking extra photos, and linking documentsto support the limited text information.

Access the story map on our website, battlecreekmi.gov. Scroll down to the City Spotlight and click through to view the presentation.

As always, feedback is welcome at PublicInput@battlecreekmi.gov
