The more than 100-year-old City Hall building, 10 N. Division St., will be assessed in the next week, after a piece of the building façade broke away on Wednesday during repair work.
A crew from Building Restoration Inc. of Kalamazoo, which specializes in historic preservation, is completing repair and maintenance on a damaged terracotta section on the northeast corner of the building. During that work Wednesday, a large piece broke away, breaking a first-floor window before hitting the ground.
A Building Restoration Inc. worker suffered a minor injury. No city employees were injured.
The suspected cause of the break is water damage.
Building Restoration Inc. continues working on the building, and city staff have contacted a forensic structural engineering firm that could help assess further damage.
