The Battle Creek Tax Increment Finance Authority/Brownfield Redevelopment Authority is looking for new members.
It is through the work of our dedicated citizens and business community members who choose to serve in this way that we have their representation in the business of city government.
The TIFA/Brownfield Redevelopment Authority’s purpose is to stop the decline of property values, increase property tax valuation, eliminate causes for a decline in value, and promote growth in the Fort Custer Industrial Park. This is in support of economic development in the community.
This board must have nine to 13 members, serving no more than four consecutive four-year terms. The board is made up of at least four city residents; four property owners, business owners, or designees of the TIFA District; and the city manager or designee.
The TIFA/Brownfield Redevelopment Authority typically meets the third Tuesday of each quarter, so the 2017 schedule was/is: Jan. 17, April 18 (annual meeting), July 18, Oct. 17. Meetings typically are held from 3-5 p.m. at Battle Creek Unlimited, 4950 W. Dickman Road. When there are ongoing projects, the board may meet more often. Budget and/or special needs committees are appointed each year, which adds about an hour to the time commitment. Appointed members receive an orientation booklet and tour of the TIFA District.
