The Michigan Wing of the Civil Air Patrol will take to the air to continue the search for a Hyundai sedan believed to have crashed into the Kalamazoo River.
Depending on the weather, the CAP, part of the U.S. Air Force Auxiliary, plans to patrol on Wednesday. If inclement weather prevents that, the plan is to patrol on Thursday.
The CAP will cover the river as far west as possible, as emergency officials believe the vehicle could have traveled for miles in the swift current.
Three boats spent about four hours Tuesday on the river, from the convergence with the Battle Creek River, to the Custer Drive bridge, the furthest the boats could pass.
Tuesday was the fourth day crews from Battle Creek and surrounding townships and counties worked together to try and locate what is believed to be a Hyundai sedan that crashed into the river early Saturday morning off Dickman Road, east of Capital Avenue.
The vehicle still has not been located. Crews decided today to suspend the search by boat, waiting for river current conditions to improve before sending divers into a deep area at the rivers' convergence where the vehicle could have become stuck. Due to conditions, use of dive cameras was not able to confirm whether it was there.
Using Emmett Township's rescue boat, Kalamazoo County Tuesday provided sonar technology used to scan close to five miles of the river.
