[ARCHIVED] Road closures set for Balloon Festival

Road closures and detours are set – with many signs posted and ready – for traffic direction during next week’s Field of Flight Air Show and Balloon Festival.

The festival takes place at the W.K. Kellogg Airport from Wednesday, June 29 to Monday, July 4. A full event schedule is available at www.bcballoons.com.

Following are the road closures in place for this year’s event:

· Helmer Road – Dickman Road to Columbia Avenue – This part of Helmer will be open to event traffic, but closed to thru traffic. Please follow posted detours.

o 4-10:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, June 29-30
o 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Friday, July 1
o 6:45 a.m.-11:30 p.m. Saturday, July 2
o 9 a.m.-11:30 p.m. Sunday and Monday, July 3-4


· These closures will be in place during the air shows, from approximately 4:15-5:30 p.m. on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday, July 1-4.

o Dickman Road at Avenue A – no eastbound traffic on Dickman
o Dickman at North Helmer Road – no westbound traffic on Dickman
o Columbia Avenue at Skyline Drive (signal) – closed to Stevens Road
o Traffic from Stevens and Stone Jug Road - East on Columbia ONLY
o Columbia westbound to Skyline at Stevens is closed to thru traffic

Please plan your travel accordingly, and be alert for police enforcement of these closures and possible traffic delays.
