Other information: Battle Creek Fire Department was dispatched to smoke coming from the structure at 193 E. Van Buren St.  Car 3 arrived within two minutes to assume command, and found smoke showing from the second floor.  Engine 1 and Rescue 3 were assigned fire attack.  Squad 2 and Squad 6 were assigned to search.  Engine 2, Engine 5, and Rescue 6 assisted with support functions.  
The home was determined to be unoccupied at the time of the fire.  A dog was safely taken out of the structure.  No injuries were reported.  
LifeCare Ambulance stood by for any medical needs.  The Fire Marshal is investigating the fire for cause.
