[ARCHIVED] UPDATE: Police seek information after drive-by shooting kills child

Battle Creek Police Department patch

Battle Creek Police believe they have the vehicle involved in the Cliff Street drive-by shooting that killed a toddler early Tuesday morning.

The black Audi Q7 was stolen from West Columbia Avenue last Sunday, Sept. 18.

Police have provided a photo of the car at the Cliff Street scene, and a clearer photo of the car in the BCPD garage.

Now police are looking for any information about who might have stolen the car, who might have driven it early Tuesday morning, and anyone who was riding in the car.

At about 2:20 a.m. Tuesday, officers responded to a report of shots fired in the 100 block of Cliff Street, and found that 2-year-old Kai Rowan Turner was shot. He died at the hospital from his injuries.

The investigation found that a dark-colored SUV drove past, and someone fired multiple rounds into the home. Kai was the only person injured. Police said the investigation so far shows that Kai’s family was not the shooter’s intended target.

Anyone with information on this vehicle should please call police at 269-781-0911 or Silent Observer at 269-964-3888.
