Battle Creek Police are asking for the community’s help after a drive-by shooting early this morning tragically killed a young child.
Early this afternoon, 2-year-old Kai Rowan Turner died from injuries related to the shooting.
At about 2:20 a.m. today, officers responded to a report of shots fired in the 100 block of Cliff Street, and found that Kai had been shot. Officers gave him first aid, and Kai was taken to the hospital.
The investigation found that a dark-colored SUV drove past, and someone fired multiple rounds into the home. Kai was the only person injured. Police said initial information shows that Kai’s family was not the shooter’s intended target.
Police are asking for the community’s help to solve this crime. If anyone was in the area at the time described, and has information that might help police, please call them at 269-781-0911 or through Silent Observer at 269-964-3888.
Police, and the city as a whole, offer their deepest sympathies to Kai’s family. We hope to gather the information needed to solve this violent crime that took the life of an innocent child.
