Water valve replacement continues Friday

 

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — City crews will continue replacing broken water valves, which will require temporary water shutoffs and a road closure beginning Friday, Aug. 26.  

This work will require temporary water shutoffs from 10 p.m., Aug. 26, to 6:00 a.m., Aug. 27, in the areas listed below:

Capital Avenue S.W., between Washington Avenue and Fountain Street
 Harrison Street, between Burnham Street E. and Whittier Ave
 Cleveland Street, between Goguac Street E. and Rittenhouse Avenue E.
 Riverside Drive, between Goguac Street E. and Rittenhouse Avenue E.
 Janoah Street, between Harrison Street and Capital Avenue S.W.
 Tennyson Avenue, between Harrison Street and Capital Avenue S.W.
 Goguac Street E., between Capital Avenue S.W. and Riverside Drive
 Baker Court, between Cleveland Street and dead end
 Bluff Street, between Cleveland Street and Riverside Drive
 Rittenhouse Avenue E., between Capital Avenue S.W. and Riverside Drive
 Fountain Street W., between Caroline Street and Capital Avenue S.W. 

City neighbors in this area should be prepared to be without water and for a potential boil water advisory when service returns. Additional information will be made available to the media, and through the city’s website and social media, should it become necessary.

Door hangers will be distributed to the homes affected. 

During this work, Capital Avenue S.W., between Burnham Street E. and Dickman Road, will be closed and emergency vehicles will not have access from Aug. 26 at 9 p.m. through Aug. 27 at 6:30 p.m.  A detour will be in place.  A map of the detour is attached to this release.  

Motorist are advised to avoid this area and follow all posted detour signs.

Due to this road closure, Transit route 4S, SW Capital bus, will detour on Saturday, Aug. 27.

  

Heading outbound the 4S bus will travel down Washington Avenue and turn right on Capital Avenue to resume regular route.  During this detour the following bus stops located on SW Capital will not be serviced. 

 

Outbound

Dickman Road near (old) K-Mart parking lot
 Nina's stop
 Battle Creek Avenue
 Goguac Street
 Webber Street
 Janoah Avenue

 

Passengers who normally use these stops should plan to use the bus stop(s) located at the Transfer Center or on Capital SW near Washington Avenue. 

 

Heading inbound the 4S bus will turn left on Washington Avenue and right on Hamblin Avenue heading towards the Transfer Center. During this detour the following bus stops located on SW Capital will not be serviced. 

 

Inbound

Burnham Street

Janoah Avenue

Whittier Avenue

Goguac Street

Elder Street

Horrocks

 

Passengers who normally use these stops should plan to use the bus stop(s) located at Phelps Avenue or the Transportation Center.
