[ARCHIVED] Transit resumes bus routes Friday, Feb. 4; please clear your sidewalks

Columbia/Territorial bus leaving the downtown Battle Creek transfer center

The snow emergency continues in the City of Battle Creek tonight, Thursday, Feb. 3. Our plow crews continue 24-hour coverage to get the streets cleared. Updates tonight are:

-Battle Creek Transit buses will return to their regular routes tomorrow - Friday, Feb. 4.

-Republic completed Thursday pickups today, plus some that they missed on Wednesday. Tomorrow, they have some Wednesday areas to finish, along with the Friday routes. They hope to get everyone's items picked up tomorrow.

-Our Code officials will be out checking sidewalks starting Monday, Feb. 7 - this is especially important for our bus stops. With four Code officers and a big city, it will take some time, but they will get there. Our ordinance says neighbors must clear their sidewalks by noon after an overnight snow, or noon the next day after a daytime snow.

When Code officials look at sidewalks for enforcement, their priority is on sidewalks near the most foot traffic - near main corridors, schools, and bus routes. They send a notice letter first, and issue citations if necessary. You can see a map with the priority areas marked at battlecreekmi.gov/code. Scroll down to Sidewalks.

If you need help with snow removal, we encourage calling 211, a connection to local resources for people who need them.

Our plow drivers also clear city-owned sidewalks, so it takes us some time to get to those. We appreciate your patience.
