Other information: The Battle Creek Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at 64 Lamora Ave. Engine 5 arrived within three minutes to find smoke showing from the structure. A hand-line was quickly deployed to extinguish the fire and search for any occupants. Engine 2, Rescue 3, Rescue 4, Truck 6, Squad 6, and Car 3 were also on scene assisting. The fire started in a rear enclosed porch area where a space heater was plugged into the electrical outlet. One person was home at the time of the fire, however smoke alarms alerted and they were able to safely exit. Due to the quick actions by fire crews, the fire was until control within five minutes. One firefighter suffered a minor hand injury. The cause of the fire was a short in the electrical equipment.
