Other information: The Battle Creek Fire Department responded to an occupied structure fire just before 8 a.m. Car 3 was first on scene to confirm a fire in the two-car garage, and possible involvement into the breezeway. Rescue 4, Rescue 3, and Truck 6 quickly extinguished and controlled the spread of fire. Squad 6 provided water, Engine 2 maintained safety, and Engine 5 provided support and overhaul. Truck 6 took care of all utilities, and SEMCO Energy/Consumers Energy were called to the scene. The fire was caused by faulty electrical wiring in the garage, and there was no fire spread into the home. All occupants were safely evacuated. BCFD would like to recognize firefighter Jayeson Tkac, who was returning home from his 24-hour shift, for his quick actions in notifying Fire Dispatch, and ensuring all occupants evacuated safely from the structure fire before crews arrived.
