Other information: The Battle Creek Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 8:21 am at 124 Greenwood Ave. Engine 2 arrived to discover fire in the kitchen on the first floor, pulled an attack line and made an aggressive fire stop preventing fire spread to the second floor. Car 3 took command, Car 6 was assigned Incident Safety Officer (ISO), Engine 5 set up water supply and Rapid Intervention Team (RIT), E6 shut off utilities and assisted Rescue 3 with second floor primary search. Rescue 4 was assigned ventilation and secondary search, Squad 4 assisted search and overhaul and Squad 6 managed rehab critical to firefighters’ health. No occupants were home at the time of the fire. A fire investigation is being performed by the Fire Marshal.
