What Is Yard Waste?

Yard waste means leaves, grass clippings, garden debris, shrubbery, brush or tree trimmings less than 4 feet in length and 2 inches in diameter.  Shrubbery, brush, and tree trimmings must be bundled.  Michigan residents can no longer place yard waste in their trash containers.

Waste Management provides curbside yard waste collection April - November on your normal trash pick-up day.  To rent a cart, please call Waste Management at 800-796-9696.

Appropriate Containers Include:

  1. 2-Ply Kraft paper bags for yard waste only (available at local food and retail stores.)
  2. Use up to 32 gallon approved containers plainly marked "Yard Waste Only" easily visible from the street (max weight of 50 pounds).  Stickers are available in our office if needed.  Any container over 32 gallons must be suitable for mechanical dumping.
  3. Rent a 96 gallon cart specially designed for yard waste collection program available from Waste Management.  The can may be used for trash in the winter months (December - March).  Waste Management also has "Garbage" toters on wheels.  Call them at 1-800-796-9696 to rent one.
