Leaf Disposal
The City of Battle Creek contracts with Waste Management for curbside trash pickup includes disposal of leaves and yard waste, as long as the material is bagged or bundled in recyclable bags and clearly marked. Containers labeled "yard waste" are also acceptable. Leaf bags are available at most area grocery stores. Labels are available from the City’s Water Billing Department.
You have several options, including:
- Bag leaves in paper bags - leaf bags for specifically designed for this purpose are sold in most area grocery stores - or place them in a container clearly marked "yard waste." Each container cannot exceed 50 pounds in weight. Waste Management will haul them away along with your regular trash.
- Hire a private contractor to collect your leaves; many will provide free estimates.
- Mow them with your lawn mower and leave them as a natural mulch for your lawn.
- Compost them in a corner of your yard, or haul them in bulk to the City’s compost site. Bryce Pit is located on River Rd. Take Bedford Rd. south to River, turn right (just past Budget Self-Storage). Bryce Pit is approximately 1/4 mile on the left. Hours are 10:00am to 6:00pm daily until the end of November.
This service is provided from the first week in April through the last week in November. Therefore, customers can continue to place their fall leaves in containers or bags each week through the week of November 28 to December 2, 2011 on their normal pick up day.
