Public Works
The Public Works Department is responsible for the following activities: design, construction, and maintenance of all street, water, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer systems within the City; park design and maintenance; production and treatment of drinking water; collection and treatment of wastewater; coordination and monitoring of environmental investigations and remediation on municipally-owned property; operation maintenance and development of the municipal airport; operation and maintenance of the City’s public transportation system; and maintenance and management of the City's vehicle and heavy-equipment fleet.
City of Battle Creek residents are provided yard waste pick up as part of their garbage service with Waste Management. The materials either have to be placed in a waste container or biodegradable bag and each container cannot exceed 50 pounds in weight. This service is provided from the first week in April through the last week in November. Therefore, customers can continue to place their fall leaves in containers or bags each week through the week of November 28 to December 2, 2011 on their normal pick up day.
