Juneteenth Family Day Celebration

Friday, June 14, 2019

Join us as we celebrate Juneteenth on Friday June 14, 2018 and Saturday June 15, 2019 at Claude Evans Park. The Juneteenth marks the ending of slavery in America and started on June 19, 1865 in Galveston, TX. Battle Creek Juneteenth celebrations began in 2003 initiated through the Battle Creek Senior Branch of the NAACP. In 2005, the State of Michigan proclaimed the 3rd Saturday in June, as Juneteenth National Freedom Day in Michigan, thereby designating Juneteenth as a State Holiday. The event combined with another long time event in the community called Family Day in 2009, hence the name Juneteenth Family Day. People from all over the county come to celebrate this day.
